About Dr. Iyesatta Massaquoi Emeli

Dr. Emeli is a Distinguished Physician at Emory University. She earned her undergraduate degree from Harvard University, her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University, and completed her emergency medicine residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She also holds a Master's degree in applied public health informatics from Emory University.

Her expertise in medical informatics has led her to be part of a working group at Emory, developing virtual acute unscheduled care models. In 2021, she was named an Innovation and Discovery in the Emergent and Acute Science (IDEAS) Scholar and is currently a National Foundation of Emergency Medicine (NFEM) Scholar. Dr. Emeli serves on the executive committee of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Telehealth Section.

As a writer, Dr. Emeli's short stories and essays have been featured in publications such as The New York Times Magazine, The Boston Globe, Eclectica Magazine, Midnight & Indigo, Journal of the American Medical Association, Annals of Emergency Medicine, and the Examined Life Journal. She won the Richard J. Margolis Award for her short story collection about the impact of war on Sierra Leone’s children. Additionally, she currently serves on the executive committee of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Medical Humanities section.
